[Introduce Singer] 미국 얼터너티브 락 밴드 R.E.M.(알.이.엠.)

R.E.M.(알.이.엠.)은 미국 조지아 주 에씬스에서 1980년 마이클 스타이프(리드 보컬), 피터 벅(기타), 마이크 밀스(베이스 기타), 빌 베리(드럼 & 퍼커션)에 의해 결성된 밴드. 최초의 인기 얼터너티브 락 밴드. 아르페지오 기타 스타일과 마이클 스타이프의 거칠지만 몽롱한 보컬 등 남성적인 소리로 주목받았다. 1981년 인디 레이블 《Hib-Tone》을 통해 첫 싱글 Radio Free Europe을 발매 데뷔. 1983년 평론가들의 호평을 받은 데뷔앨범 <Murmur>을 발매. 1987년 세계적인 밴드로 도약하게 되는데 워너 브라더스 레코드사와 메이저 음반 계약을 체결, 전 세계에서 대형 공연을 펼치면서 정치와 환경에 관련된 음악이나 성향을 가지기 시작했다. 1996년 워너 브라더스 레코드사와 재계약을 하면서 8천만 달러를 받았는데, 이 금액은 그 당시 가장 비싼 음반계약으로 알려져 있다. 같은 해에 드러머 빌 베리가 탈퇴하면서 이들은 3인조가 되었다. 2007년, 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 등록되었고 2011년 9월 공식 홈페이지에서 해체를 발표했다. ▣ 상세 설명 위키백과 => R.E.M.
