폴 매카트니 경(Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE, Hon RAM, FRCM, Hon DMus, 1942년 6월 18일~) 영국 리버풀 출신 싱어송라이터, 비틀즈의 멤버. 20세기 대중음악의 상징적인 인물로 손꼽히는 매카트니는 '역사상 가장 성공적인 대중음악가'로 기네스 북에 올라가 있기도 하다. 매카트니는 빌보드 기준으로 총 21개의 싱글 1위곡을 냈으며, 비틀즈의 곡들 뿐 아니라 솔로시절의 곡들, 윙스로 활동하던 기간의 곡들까지 합치면 폴 매카트니가 작곡에 참여한 곡 중 빌보드 톱10에 든 노래는 50곡이 넘는다. 매카트니는 음악 교육가(왕립음악대학 등)와 화가로도 활동했으며 동물 보호 활동, 지뢰 반대 활동 등 다방면의 사회 운동에 앞장서기도 했다. 특히 그는 채식주의자로 유명하다. 매카트니는 1965년에는 비틀즈의 멤버로서 대영 제국 훈장 5등급(MBE)을, 1997년 3월 11일에는 단독으로 기사작위(Knight Bachelor)를 받았으며,[1] 1992년에 폴라음악상을 받았다. 1987년 작곡가 명예의 전당, 1999년 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 솔로 아티스트로서 입성했다. 2012년 런던 올림픽 개막식에서 〈Hey Jude〉를 불렀다.
