2006년 데뷔 싱글 "Tim McGraw"가 빌보드 컨트리 차트에서 6위에 올랐으며, 2006년 10월에 발매한 데뷔 음반 Taylor Swift는 빌보드 핫 컨트리 송에서 5개의 히트 싱글을 만들어냈고 미국 음반 산업 협회로부터 트리플 플래티넘 인증을 받았다. 2010년 1월 31일 열린 제52회 그래미 상에서 올해의 앨범상, 최우수 컨트리 앨범상, 최우수 여성 컨트리 보컬, 최우수 컨트리 노래상의 무려 4부문에서 수상을 하였고, 이날 스위프트는 무려 8개 부문 후보에 올랐다. 2008년에는 두 번째 정규 음반 Fearless를 발매했고, 빌보드 200에서 11주 동안 1위를 지켰다. 2009년, 스위프트는 빌보드가 선정한 2009 올해의 아티스트로 선정되었다. 2010년 10월 25일에는 스위프트의 세 번째 정규 음반 Speak Now가 발매되었고, 첫 주 1,047,000만 장을 파는 기록을 남겼다.
