미국 텍사스 출생, 2002년 폭스 텔레비전 아메리칸 아이돌 첫 시즌 우승 정식 데뷔.
데뷔앨범 Thankful (2003), 두 개의 그래미 상을 수상한 두번째 정규앨범 Breakaway (2004), 세번째 정규앨범 My December (2007), 그리고 최신작 All I Ever Wanted (2009) 까지 총 네 장의 정규앨범을 발매했다. 전세계에서 5천 6백만 장 이상의 음반을 판매. 아메리칸 아이돌 역사상 전세계에서 가장 많은 음반을 판매한 우승자이자 최초로 그래미상을 수상했으며 유일하게 비우승곡으로 빌보드 싱글차트 1위를 차지한 아티스트이다.
