한국인이 좋아하는 팝송 100, 빌리 조엘 피아노맨 (Billy Joel - Piano Man)
미국 싱어송라이터 빌리조엘의 첫 빅 히트곡이며 대표곡으로 2집 수록곡 피아노 맨은 발표후부터 지금까지 꾸준히 사랑을 받고 있는 소프트 락의 명곡이다.
1972년 빌리가 LA의 Executive Room이라는 바에서 6개월간 피아노 라운지 가수 경험을 담았다. 조엘은 노래에 등장하는 인물들이 실제 인물들을 묘사했다고 밝혔는데 John은 바에서 근무하던 바텐더였고, Paul은 이후 유명한 미국 소설가가 된다. 웨이트레스는 빌리의 첫 부인 Elizabeth Weber이었다.
빌보드핫 최대 25위를 기록했는데 한순간에 큰 인기를 얻었다기보다는 오랜 동안 꾸준히 사랑을 받는 러브 송이다. 2004년 롤링스톤 선정 위대한 노래(Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.) 421위에 랭크되었다.
