올드코난의 이솝우화 제 123화 이웃 개구리 두마리 (Perry 69. Two Frogs were Neighbours)
개구리 두 마리가 서로 이웃에 살고 있었다. 하나는 조용하고 깊은 연못가 근처에서 살고 있었고, 다른 개구리는 도로 옆 작은 웅덩이 근처에서 살고 있었다. 연못에 살던 개구리가 도로 근처에 살던 친구 개구리에게 그곳은 위험하니 자신이 살고 있는 곳으로 이사를 오라고 충고를 했지만, 도로가의 개구리는 이미 그곳이 익숙해서 이사를 하기가 번거롭다고 여겨 거절한다.
얼마후 그 개구리는 도로를 지나가던 수레바퀴에 깔려 죽고 말았다.
어리석은 자의 고집은 스스로 화를 자초한다.

이 이야기는 어리석은 고집을 피우지 말라는 교훈과 현실에 안주하지 말라는 교훈 그리고, 남의 충고를 귀담아 들으라는 교훈이 담겨있다.
연못가 개구리는 진심으로 도로가의 개구리가 염려가 되어 충보를 해주었지만, 도로가에 살던 개구리는 익숙해졌기에, 귀찮아졌기에 그대로 살다 죽고 말았다. 만일 친구의 말을 귀담아 듣고, 조금 더 깊이 생각했더라면 수레바퀴에 깔려 죽지 않았을 것이다. 생각없는 사람과 게으른 자들에게 화는 스스로 자초하는 법이다. 이 이야기는 귀를 막고 자신의 뜻대로만 정치를 하려드는 박근혜 대통령이 귀담아 들어야 할 내용이다.

Perry 69. Two Frogs were Neighbours
One Frog lived in a pond while another Frog lived by the road. The Pond Frog asked the other to come but the Road Frog said no. Road Frog crushed. Too bad.
A willful man will have his way to his own hurt.
1. Townsend version
Two frogs were neighbors. One inhabited a deep pond, far removed from public view; the other lived in a gully containing little water, and traversed by a country road. The Frog that lived in the pond warned his friend to change his residence and entreated him to come and live with him, saying that he would enjoy greater safety from danger and more abundant food. The other refused, saying that he felt it so very hard to leave a place to which he had become accustomed. A few days afterwards a heavy wagon passed through the gully and crushed him to death under its wheels.
Moral: A willful man will have his way to his own hurt.
2. L’Estrange version (Two Travellers and A Bag of Money)
There were two neighbour-frogs; one of them liv’d in a pond, and the other in the high-way hard-by. The pond-frog finding the water begin to fail upon the road, would fain have gotten t’other frog over to her in the pool, where she might have been safe; but she was wonted to the place, she said, and would not remove. And what was the end on’t now, but the wheel of a cart drove over her a while after, and crush’d her to pieces?
Moral: Some people are so listless and slothful, that they’ll rather lie still and die in a ditch, then stir one finger to help themselves out on’t.
3. Ranae Duae Vicinae
Ranae duae vicina loca incolebant, altera paludem profundam, altera lacunulam iuxta viam in qua modicum aquae substiterat. Tum illa paludis inhabitatrix hortabatur alteram ad se ut commigraret, ubi multo tutiorem vitam degere liceret. Haec vero negabat se posse avelli a consueto domicilio atque loco. Paulo post, eam nihil metuentem plaustri rotae contriverunt.
